BETO RUIZ

(Teotitlán del Valle, Oaxaca, 1979)

He learned the technique of weaving on pedal loom at the age of 8 in the Ruiz family workshop. At the age of 17 he started living in Tijuana and enrolled in different art workshops, where he met and worked with masters such as Francisco Chávez Corrugado, Felipe Ehrenberg, Carlos Zerpa, among others.

In 2008 he returned to Oaxaca to work on a series of pieces in pedal loom (electronic circuits) called Códices Contemporáneos; later in 2010 he founded Tallerocho8 – Espacio Liminal Textil.

His artistic interest lies in the exploration of the frontiers between different artistic languages and in the re-signification of weaving through the use of current art strategies such as installation, video, among others.

His work has been exhibited in Oaxaca, Tijuana, the United States and Mexico City.
