BULMARO AND DIEGO PÉREZ

BULMARO PÉREZ BAUTISTA

(TEOTITLÁN DEL VALLE, OAXACA, 1997)

He was born on July 19, 1997 in Teotitlán del Valle, Oaxaca, the cradle of wool rugs. His family has been dedicated to the craft of wool handicrafts for many generations, an artisanship they learned from a young age.

Bulmaro’s family taught him the value of the art that they made with their hands, he learned at a very young age each process to be able to collaborate at home.

Thanks to the support of his parents, he had the opportunity to have academic studies until graduating from university, however his objective was more inclined to preserve and promote the elaboration of the rugs of Teotitlán del Valle.

His first designs were made when he was 14 years old, in each loom he always implemented a different process that gave him a particular touch. Bulmaro has a fascination for abstract figures, because for him it is something that breaks with the order of the common in weaving, in his art involves the implementation of symbols or traditional designs.

Bulmaro enjoys capturing something extraordinary on the loom and preserving the essence of the traditions, symbols or representative sites of Oaxaca.

DIEGO ALBERTO PÉREZ BAUTISTA

(TEOTITLÁN DEL VALLE, OAXACA, 1998)

At his young age and as part of his family culture and tradition, he learned to weave wool rugs.

Diego agrees with his brother Bulmaro, when he expresses that the love for the art of weaving is something that is carried in the blood, that is transmitted from generation to generation and in which there is the opportunity to appreciate and value each process.

His first rugs were made when he was 12 years old and he started his own designs two years later. The shading technique is something he likes to implement in each creation, because for him it is an unusual weaving, to which more time, effort and details are dedicated.

La danza de la Pluma, one of the most representative dance pieces of the Guelaguetza and of which Diego is part, is his main source of inspiration.
